Rosa Kirsch’s artistic practice explores essential dichotomies such as «illusion and reality», «good and evil», and «control and chaos». She employs the visual potential of these contrasts to to question human behaviour.
Her work explores how we construct our reality in response to negative emotions such as fear, sadness or shame, reflecting on ideas of gender, tradition, and morality. She draws inspiration from nature, the domestic, fairytales, psychology and symbolism.
Rosa Kirsch works in an interdisciplinary manner, combining a variety of media and techniques that embody the interplay of ambivalence at the core of her practice. Soft materials contrast with hard ones, shiny with matte, the familiar with the unfamiliar, the natural with the artificial. She merges handmade elements with found objects, everyday items and spontaneous photographs.
In a complex balance between security and discomfort, humour and melancholy, optimism and despair, Rosa Kirsch bridges inner and outer realities. Her works are driven by an ongoing exploration of the stories we tell ourselves, the search for truth, and a way of dealing with it.
