The series Nightmare pillows, explores the ambivalence of sleep.
We tend to think of sleeping as a very pure and innocent state of mind. In reality, however, we become defenseless against both physical attacks and our darkest nightmares.
As the title suggests, the works use pillows as a point of reference, due to their close association with comfort, and the intimacy of the bed. Embedded elements, such as tears or postcards, introduce a disturbance within the otherwise plump forms.
This intervention reflects the way fear manifests in the human body.
Nightmares are rarely recalled as precise visual events, instead, they persist as physical sensations and carry a heaviness that cannot be fully explained. At the same time, dreams maintain a clear connection to the real world, creating a strange tension between reality and illusion.
The most painful experience is rooted within this tension, when reality becomes so surreal and all thats left is our hope to wake up from a bad dream.
