The installation das Zimmer (the Room, 2025) is a variation on Rosa Kirsch’s graduation project die Mauern (the Walls, 2024).

In die Mauern, Kirsch explored the fear of death as an existential threat and the ways in which this fear is collectively repressed. Das Zimmer focuses on the ambivalence within this behaviour.

The installation addresses our longing for escape and control by constructing a sealed space that reveals how people are driven by the urge to keep out the unwanted until it completely takes over their perception. Das Zimmer creates an illusory harmony, a protective shell shielding us from the confrontation with mortality and the meaninglessness of existence. But what is meant to protect us also cuts us off. In the end, safety turns into isolation.

Das Zimmer was first shown at the Burg Giebichenstein graduation exhibition hellwach. wide awake and later presented in the group exhibition someone is in my house at Galerie Laetitia Gorsy in Leipzig.
